| The Honourable Jim Flaherty |
Jim Flaherty, my second-most politician I love to hate, is trying to balance the budget. A laudable goal to be true. His approach seems to be to cut anything that actually helps Canadians who need help or that protects our environment/cultural diversity/real science. My loathing of this politician has been ongoing since at least 2006 when he became Minister of Finance, although he was pretty annoying during his time in provincial politics in Ontario as well. So when the budget officer says the current round of cuts are primarily going to affect services while the "Honourable" Member of Parliament, Mr. Flaherty, says they are primarily to affect "back office", I have to call "pants on fire" on one of them. And for me the pattern of obfuscation and out and out untruths would fit the Harper government modus operandi. The outrageous part, for me, is that no one knows where the cuts will take place. Not the MPs who voted on them, not the departments affected by them, certainly not Kevin Page who is trying to give an independent assessment of the impact of this budget. I don't even know if Flaherty himself knows.
Ok. All for now. But if I continue to use Blogger to vent, expect a lot more posts :)

I applaud your political stance! For a while I've been toying with the idea of creating a blog just to remind people, who seem to have a loose memory whenever elections roll around, what the Harper government has done to Canada in the last decade. Almost weekly I read about a completely backward and yet quietly implemented change the Conservative Government has made to a social system, environmental regulation or foreign policy that we, as Canadians, have always been proud of. He's systematically funding or not funding his own values and not even Conservative ones. One million dollars on a fake lake? And what about bloating up the Senate when he initially promised reform it?
Not to be vicious but to be obvious, I think it's a good idea that someone brings to public attention what is going on. News outlets no longer do that.
