Rocky Mountain Road Trip Day 2

 

Day 2 started still in the airplane. I had originally booked us to arrive early Saturday morning and we would go to Jasper for Saturday night. Unfortunately our airline had other ideas and instead had us arriving at 11:40pm. Too late to pick up our rental car and much too late to arrive in Jasper. We arrived almost an hour later than forecasted, and our luggage was another 90 minutes after that. By the time we checked in to our hotel, it was 2am local time, or 4am according to our bodies. After about 4 hours sleep, we went to pick up our rental car back at the airport. We then went to a Costco to wait until it opened to buy supplies. It is very likely I shouldn't have bought the Costco sized groceries.

We were then a little more selective at Walmart and hit the road just before noon where we also picked up a second tent and 5th sleeping bag. Driving west was pretty smooth sailing. We stopped in Edson for a very late and very large lunch at Castle restaurant. A game of "mountains are actually fake news" started as Chris tried to convince the kids that the foothills were the mountains. Everyone was pretty awe struck when we finally entered Jasper park. Many selfies, instas, time lapses, etc. We arrived at our "oTentik" and soaked in the views. 

Our car for the next 2 weeks. Nissan Rogue. Three teenagers in the back seat. What could go wrong?

A black bear was known to be in the area that afternoon. We drove in to town to get our bearings and some bear spray, just in case. After the travel, and lack of sleep, we were all pretty destroyed (except Lucas who was used to staying up to the wee hours). We went to bed super early after a small snack.
